Term Checker — Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 18, 2026
Term Checker is a Chrome extension that shows you a privacy summary for whatever website you are currently visiting. This page describes exactly what the extension does with your data.
What the extension reads
-
The domain of the tab you are currently viewing
(for example,
example.com) — only when you click the extension icon. The extension does not read the full URL, page contents, form inputs, cookies, or anything else.
What the extension sends
-
The domain is sent to our analysis server at
terms-vzh0.onrender.comover HTTPS so we can return the saved privacy analysis for that site. - If you press the Request Analysis button on a site we have not yet covered, that domain is added to our analysis queue. No other information is included.
What we store
- On our server: the list of domains that have been requested or analyzed, and the public privacy-policy text we fetched for each. We do not store your IP, account, browsing history, or any identifier that ties a request to you.
- In the extension itself: a short-lived in-memory cache (session storage) of recent analyses, so opening the popup on the same site twice does not re-hit the server. This cache is cleared when Chrome closes.
What we do not do
- No accounts, no sign-in, no email collection.
- No cookies set by the extension.
- No third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of data with anyone.
- No remote code: the extension ships with all its code bundled.
Permissions, explained
-
activeTab— lets the extension read the domain of the tab you are on when you click the icon. Without this, the extension cannot know which site to look up. -
storage— used for the short-lived in-memory cache described above. -
host_permissions: https://terms-vzh0.onrender.com/*— lets the extension talk to our analysis server.
